How many times have we heard people say, “Don’t pray for patience! God will bring trials and sufferings into your life if you pray for patience.” The problem with such a perspective is that it uses fear to deter us from seeking growth in an important area of our spiritual fruitfulness. You remember the fruit of the spirit, don’t you: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, PATIENCE, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control; against such things there is no law.” (Gal 5:22-23) So patience is part of the fruit of regeneration.
I just preached on God’s amazing patience on Sunday, but as I write this article, I must confess that I often struggle Continue reading

This is a good question, and you certainly don’t need a secret handshake or password to get answers. The Pastors Body of Morningview is YOUR Pastors Body; we are nominated to the office of elder by you and voted into our positions by you. We are accountable to you just as you are to us, and we serve you and shepherd you with the Word according to the call of God upon our lives. While we may need to guard the confidence of members that we are shepherding through crisis or discipline, almost all the other aspects of what we do Continue reading

How many of us know the wonderful feeling of having a paid-off mortgage? Given the youthfulness of our church family, most of us are probably still a long way from this goal. But for those of you who have experienced this blessing, congratulations! You know the elation of reaching this milestone. May you enjoy the fruit of your hard work and faithfulness. For the rest of us, may God bless our Continue reading

Some people always pray the same prayer, whether they pray it just once a day or repeat it many times. They may use words straight out of Scripture, even praying one of the prayers of the Bible word for word, or they may speak sentences of a merely human origin. Either way, in Heaven their prayers Continue reading

This weekend, we will have our fourth annual Men’s Leadership Retreat, and I hope you will be in prayer for all those who will be attending. I know that so many of my Family articles are concerned with such calls to pray, and that is because prayer is so essential to our individual lives and to the life of our church. Prayer is to the Christian spirit Continue reading

The prayer room at Morningview is a ministry designed to assist members in praying for one another. It has a system of keeping track of prayer requests and how God answers those requests over time. Our church covenant at Morningview commits us to pray for one another, and the prayer room is one way we can keep each other accountable to do that. Being involved in the prayer room will help you to know the needs of your brothers and sisters in Christ. It will also allow you to benefit from the blessing of how God answers prayer in our midst.
When you sign up, we will contact you with further information about how to access the prayer room (the door code) and get you information about how the prayer room works. We understand that everyone has different responsibilities; so, not everyone can give an hour each week to the prayer room.
Among the slots available, we have:
Tuesday 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Thursday 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Friday 11:00 am – 9:00 pm
Saturday 6:00 am – 9:00 pm

Every single day of my life, I am humbled by 3 things: The grace of Christ that I could never merit, the blessing of my wife and children in whom I see the smile of God, and the privilege I have been given to shepherd Morningview Baptist Church. I truly love our church. I love you because you are sources of wisdom and encouragement Continue reading

Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body. (Hebrews 13:3, ESV)
November 8 is the day of this year’s missions conference with Bob Sjogren. It is also the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. This year, on the second Sunday in November, our church will participate in this day of prayer again. We will have 24 hours of continuous prayer for the persecuted church on November 8. If you wish to participate please contact Judd Hough at 284-5567 to sign up for an hour of prayer. Judd will provide you with a time slot that works for your schedule and a prayer guide to help direct your prayer during that hour. Please prayerfully consider the exhortation of the author of Hebrews to remember those who are in prison and mistreated since we also are in the body.
